Requesting scholars for a Dark Souls rp

So, basically I really want to create a Dark Souls roleplay because I feel it is something many people who are fans of the title will be attracted to and I think some really intense rp can come from it, the thing is I've been giving this some though for a couple of days now and I just can't come up with a cohesive story that will do a popular title such as Dark Souls justice. That's where you come in if you think you can help, I need someone that I can collaborate with to create an epic story for a Dark Souls rp I'm dying to create. PM me if you wish to engage in close collaboration with me, or just post your ideas here and we can weed out ones that simply will not work, and put finishing touches on any ideas with real potential.

If I do get a really awesome idea that I can roll with rest assured that the person will receive his or her due credit, and if they choose to be apart of the rp if it does happen they will get priority over all others, meaning they get first picks at whatever characters are needed for the rp, now matter how great or how small their roles.

Top 50 good guys in wrestling history

Some folks might try to tell you it?s?the villains that make sports-entertainment fun. And why not? It?s the baddies in the black hats who get to throw fireballs, electrocute millionaires and run people over with monster trucks. But it?s the good guys who give the fans something to believe in, a hero to look up to and a reminder that, more often than not, good does triumph over evil.

In compiling our list of the 50 greatest good guys in sports-entertainment history, WWE Classics extended our gaze beyond WWE history, paying specific attention to local heroes who made an impact in smaller territories across the country in the days before television. Popularity was important, but so was character ? there was a special place on this list for those who never strayed far from the path of righteousness. More than anything, though, we were just looking for heroes, those inspiring competitors worthy of being enshrined on a tattered poster on a kid?s bedroom wall.

Here, we present the 50 Superstars that wrestling fans grew up admiring???and still do today. (PHOTOS)

Iranian news agency picks up Onion article as fact

CHICAGO (AP) ? A joke by the satirical newspaper The Onion appears to have gotten lost in translation.

An Iranian news agency picked up ? as fact ? a story from the paper about a supposed survey showing an overwhelming majority of rural white Americans would rather vote for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad than President Barack Obama. But it was made up, like everything in the just-for-laughs newspaper, which is headquartered in Chicago.

The English-language service of Iran's semiofficial Fars news agency republished the story Friday, several days after it appeared in The Onion.

The Iranian version copied the original word-for-word, even including a made-up quote from a fictional West Virginia resident who says he'd rather go to a baseball game with Ahmadinejad because "he takes national defense seriously, and he'd never let some gay protesters tell him how to run his country like Obama does."

Homosexual acts are punishable by death in Iran, and Ahmadinejad famously said during a 2007 appearance at Columbia University that "in Iran we don't have homosexuals like in your country."

The Iranian version of the article leaves out only The Onion's description of Ahmadinejad as "a man who has repeatedly denied the Holocaust and has had numerous political prisoners executed."

The article was featured prominently on the Fars website alongside its usual fare of stories about advances in Iranian military technology, condemnation of Israel and Iran's nuclear program. The story appeared to have been taken down by about mid-day, Chicago time.

Calls to Fars representatives were not answered Friday.

The Onion reveled in the fact that it had been taken seriously.

Onion editor Will Tracy put out a tongue-in-cheek statement that referred to Fars as "a subsidiary of The Onion" that has acted as the paper's Middle Eastern bureau since it was founded in the mid-1980s by Onion publisher T. Herman Zweibel.

"The Onion freely shares content with Fars and commends the journalists at Iran's Finest News Source on their superb reportage," Tracy said in jest.

It's not the first time a foreign news outlet has been duped by The Onion. In 2002, the Beijing Evening News, one of the Chinese capital's biggest newspapers, picked up a story from The Onion that claimed members of Congress were threatening to leave Washington unless the building underwent a makeover that included more bathrooms and a retractable dome.

US immigration chief: Same-sex ties are family ties | USEC IM USA ...

By Miranda Leitsinger, NBC News

Same-sex couples will be considered ?family relationships? in immigration proceedings, according to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, a move that could help stem the deportation of those in gay or lesbian binational relationships.

Close family ties to the United States are a factor considered by authorities in deportation cases, and gay and lesbian advocates have long argued for same-sex couples to have the same immigration rights as opposite-sex couples.

?In an effort to make clear the definition of the phrase ?family relationships,? I have directed ICE to disseminate written guidance to the field that the interpretation of the phrase ?family relationships? includes long-term, same-sex partners,? Napolitano said in a letter.

Eight-four members of Congress signed a joint letter to Napolitano on July 31 asking for her to put into writing an order to prevent the deportation and separation of immigrants from their American citizen same-sex partners.

One of those who penned the letter, U.S. Congressman Michael Honda of California, said Napolitano?s response, which he received Thursday night, heralded ?promising news.?

?In the wake of this important victory, we must take a step forward and continue the fight for immigration reform. Current immigration laws are tearing families apart and separating American citizens from their loves ones,? he said in a statement.??No one should have to choose between their spouse and their country, and no family should be left out of the immigration system.?

There are an estimated 36,000 binational gay couples in the U.S. Two such couples have brought lawsuits challenging the Defense of Marriage Act, a U.S. law passed in 1996 that bars federal recognition of same-sex marriages and thereby denies various benefits given to heterosexual couples, such as the right to immigrate.

Rachel B. Tiven, executive director of Immigration Equality, called the announcement a ?huge step forward.?

?Until now, LGBT families and their lawyers had nothing to rely on but an oral promise that prosecutorial discretion would include all families. Today, DHS has responded to Congress and made that promise real. The Administration?s written guidance will help families facing separation and the field officers who are reviewing their cases,? she said in a statement.

Tiven was referring to the prosecutorial discretion laid out in June 2011, when ICE Director John Morton issued a memo requiring staff? to consider the circumstances presented in individual deportation cases, such as whether the person has close family ties to the U.S.

Mariinsky's authoritative 'Swan Lake' comes to O.C. | swan, lake ...

No dance company can make a stronger claim of ownership to a ballet than the Mariinsky does to "Swan Lake."

Russia's celebrated ensemble, known from its founding in the 1740s until the country's 1917 revolution as the Imperial Russian Ballet and during the Soviet period as the Kirov, is bringing its spectacular signature work to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts for seven performances beginning Tuesday.

The Bolshoi, Russia's other legendary dance company, debuted the first incarnation of "Swan Lake," set to Tchaikovsky's beloved score. But its 1877 retelling of a Russian folk tale about a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer's curse never took flight.

It wasn't until 1895 that choreographers Marius Petipas and Lev Ivanov put together a version for St. Petersburg's Imperial Russian Ballet that connected with audiences and critics.

Since then it has never been out of the company's repertoire. Young women who enter the Vaganova Academy, the Mariinsky's prestigious ballet school, practice the devilishly tricky corps de ballet parts from the very beginning of their training. It's one of the reasons that the Mariinsky's "Swan Lake" is famous for is ethereal beauty, sublime athleticism and uncanny accuracy.

"We have 32 swans in the corps de ballet, and one who is the queen. That's 33 in all," said the company's director, Yuri Fateev. "They all must be perfect."

One of the reasons the company obsesses about "Swan Lake," of course, is because everyone wants to see it. During the Cold War, it served as the Soviet Union's cultural calling card. Now when the 200-member group tours the world, presenters demand it.

"All the producers, they are asking for it," Fateev said. "That means we must always be ready."

Constant ensemble rehearsal is crucial to the production's success, Fateev said.

"It is very important for the same people to do it together and develop a feeling for each other, so they can do exactly the same timing and the same steps. That is why the Vaganova Academy is so important to us. They are learning those steps from a very early age, and they come and watch ('Swan Lake') being performed many times during their educational years."

The dancers' size and proportions are also vitally important to "Swan Lake's" success, Fateev said. "We try to cast people who are the same size: same long legs, long arms, long neck."

Fateev's company is precise about height, too: corps de ballet members must be between 1.65 and 1.72 meters (roughly 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7).

YEARS OF REVERENCE AND CARE

Judy Morr, who programs the dance season at the Segerstrom Center, is one of the Mariinsky's many avid fans.

"I think the (Mariinsky version) is the essence of 'Swan Lake' and it has absolutely everything that I never grow tired of seeing in ballet. It's got a great story. It's got that incredible score by Tchaikovsky. It's got romance. And it's got the exquisitely trained dancers that frankly only the Mariinsky can deliver."

The company has brought "Swan Lake" to Orange County before. It was presented along with "Romeo and Juliet" during the 17-day Mariinsky Festival in 2006, part of the Segerstrom Center's 20th anniversary celebration. But Morr never tires of the work, and she knows the Segerstrom Center's many dance aficionados don't either.

"There's a feeling that hits me every time I see one of the great classics like this one being performed by a company of this caliber. You realize all the historical background that goes with it. You can see all the years of reverence and care. You know that what you're seeing isn't much different than what audiences saw over 100 years ago."

Morr also loves hosting the Russians, a larger-than-life group that electrifies the Segerstrom Center every time they roll into town.

"They're so full of life. And they love to eat. Everyone says that dancers don't eat. With them it's quite the contrary."

Morr, who has been working at the Segerstrom Center since it opened in 1986, remembers when the presence of Russians caused a great deal more tension.

"During the (Soviet era) we always had visiting security that would come with the company. I'm sure they were KGB. They were obvious to those of us on the inside; they were omnipresent. They would make the rounds from backstage to the front of the house.

"Thank goodness those days are gone."

It's more than just aesthetic appreciation that prompts Morr to bring the Mariinsky to her performing arts center. A big-name company can spur ticket sales, not just to its performances but to the entire subscription season.

"I've been encouraged by the public response," Morr said. "I was counting on it to be substantial with 'Swan Lake' as the opening of the season. But it's been more successful than we hoped."

Fateev said that level of enthusiasm for "Swan Lake" is echoed wherever his company performs. He has some theories about why "Swan Lake" is such an enduring draw.

"It has genius music. I know a lot of conductors who like to perform 'Swan Lake' in concert. Petipas did his best work. He was French but he stayed much of his life in Russia and understood the Russian character. And the story ? people love it. They cry over it.

"These three things make 'Swan Lake' great. It is hard to find that combination in any other ballet."

Local man diagnosed with Lymphoma raises money ... - Cancer Kick

?

Since 1949 the Leukemia and Lymphoma society has raised more than $875,000,000 to fund research leading to treatment, and in the past 24 years that work has paid off with survival rates for blood cancer patients doubling and tripling and in some cases quadrupling.

But the work never ends. Just ask Phong La.

This is not how 26 year old Phong La expected to spend a gorgeous fall day. Accompanied by his sister, he?s meeting for the first time with Dr. Todd Doyle, a radiation oncologist who?ll map out his course of radiation treatment. That?s because Phong is recovering from lymphoma, diagnosed in March.

For two years Phong suffered knee pain. But it wasn?t until this past March he got a diagnosis -lymphoma.

?I didn?t even know what to say. I didn?t know what to think. I thought he was kidding with me. I mean, I?m 26 years old diagnosed with lymphoma in my knee,? said Phong.

Lymphoma usually affects the lymphatic system ? In rare cases it affects the soft tissue of the knee. Chemotherapy quickly followed.

?The radiation is a sort of insurance card to clean up any cancer cells that might have survived the chemo.

Despite his ordeal, Phong turned his attention to others.

With time on his hands during recovery, and encouraged by friends, he began fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Association. He blasted through his first goal of $5,000, well on his way to raising $10,000.

Phong was lucky. Shortly before his diagnosis a friend encouraged him to get health insurance. Without it, and help from his family, he?d be destitute. In fact, all the money friends donated to him, he?s put toward his fundraising goal.

You can help Phong reach his goal and join hundreds of others this Saturday at Siena College for Light the Night.

A big fundraiser sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m.

Prominent Kremlin critic faces criminal charges

MOSCOW (AP) ? A Russian tycoon who has financed a newspaper critical of the Kremlin and supported the opposition was charged over an incident during a TV talk show a year ago in which he punched another businessman, the country's top investigative agency said Wednesday.

Alexander Lebedev faces charges of hooliganism and assault, the State Investigative Committee said. In Russia, filing criminal charges marks the start of a criminal probe, which may or may not lead to a trial.

He posted a scan of the official document outlining the charges against him on his blog, but wouldn't make any immediate comment. Lebedev, whose net worth was reported by Forbes magazine to be $1.1 billion, made his money in the banking industry. He has financed Novaya Gazeta, which is fiercely critical of the Kremlin, and British newspapers the Independent and the Evening Standard.

Lebedev's son, Yevgeny, tweeted that his father is "being targeted by people who don't like his stance against corruption, and hate Novaya."

Lebedev himself said last month that he was forced to sell his assets because of pressure by Russia's Federal Security Service, the main KGB successor agency. He said the pressure was rooted in corruption investigations by Novaya Gazeta, alleging that some of its officers were involved in corruption.

Lebedev and former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev own a 49 percent stake in the newspaper, while the remaining shares are controlled by Novaya's staffers. Novaya Gazeta's relentless criticism of the Kremlin, and its investigations into official corruption have put many of its journalists under fire. Four of Novaya Gazeta reporters have been killed since 2000, including Anna Politkovskaya, a fierce critic of the Kremlin and its policies in Chechnya who was gunned down in the elevator of her Moscow apartment building in 2006. Others have been harassed and attacked.

Lebedev has also supported Alexei Navalny, a charismatic anti-corruption crusader and blogger who was a key driving force against massive protests in the past winter against Vladimir Putin's rule. Lebedev, a KGB veteran like Putin, so far has avoided blaming the president for his woes, blaming security services for the campaign against him.

Lebedev owns the National Reserve Bank and also has a stake in Russian flag carrier Aeroflot as well as his own Red Wings airline.

Five-year-olds put to the test as kindergarten exams gain steam

(Reuters) - With school in full swing across the United States, the littlest students are getting used to the blocks table and the dress-up corner - and that staple of American public education, the standardized test.

A national push to make public schools more rigorous and hold teachers more accountable has led to a vast expansion of testing in kindergarten. And more exams are on the way, including a test meant to determine whether 5-year-olds are on track to succeed in college and career.

Paul Weeks, a vice president at test developer ACT Inc., says he knows that particular assessment sounds a bit nutty, especially since many kindergarteners aspire to careers as superheroes. "What skills do you need for that, right? Flying is good. X-ray vision?" he said, laughing.

But ACT will soon roll out college- and career-readiness exams for kids age 8 through 18 and Weeks said developing similar tests for younger ages is "high on our agenda." Asking kids to predict the ending of a story or to suggest a different ending, for instance, can identify the critical thinking skills that employers prize, he said.

"There are skills that we've identified as essential for college and career success, and you can back them down in a grade-appropriate manner," Weeks said. "Even in the early grades, you can find students who may be at risk."

At least 25 states now mandate at least one formal assessment during kindergarten. Many local school districts require their own tests as well, starting just a few weeks into the academic year.

The proliferation of exams for five-year-olds has sparked a fierce debate that echoes a broader national divide over how much standardized testing is appropriate in public schools.

Advocates say it's vital to test early and often because too many kids fall irretrievably behind in their first years of schooling. The most recent national exams for fourth graders found just 34 percent proficient in reading and 40 percent proficient in math.

Opponents counter that testing puts undue stress on 5- and 6-year-olds and cuts into the time they should be spending playing, singing and learning social skills. They also contend that most tests for kindergarteners are unreliable because the children have short attention spans and often find it difficult to demonstrate skills on demand.

'WE SHOULD KNOW BETTER'

Formal tests give a narrow picture of a child's ability, said Samuel Meisels, president of the Erikson Institute, a graduate school in Chicago focused on child development. He urges teachers instead to assess young children by observing them over time, recording skills and deficits and comparing those to benchmarks.

But Meisels fears such observational tests won't seem objective or precise enough in today's data-driven world; he says he too often sees them pushed aside in favor of more formal assessments.

"I am worried, yes," he said. "We should know better."

Kari Knutson, a veteran kindergarten teacher in Minnesota, has seen the shifting attitude toward testing play out in her classroom.

During her first two decades of teaching, Knutson rarely, if ever, gave formal tests; kindergarten was about learning through play, music, art and physical activity.

These days, though, her district mandates a long list of assessments.

Knutson started the year by quizzing each of her 23 students on the alphabet and phonics, through a 111-question oral exam. Last week, she brought the kids to the computer lab for another literacy test. Each kindergartener wore headphones and listened to questions while a menu of possible answers flashed on the screen. They were supposed to respond by clicking on the correct answer, though not all could maneuver the mouse and some gave up in frustration, Knutson said.

This week, it's on to math - and a seven-page, pencil-and-paper test. "It's supposed to show them what they'll be learning in first grade," Knutson said. "Like they really care."

In her view, the kids are far too young to tackle formal exams, especially in their first weeks of what is for many their first school experience. "Half of them are crying because they miss mom and dad. When you tell them to line up, they don't even know what a line is," Knutson said.

Despite her frustration, Knutson acknowledges the tests have some advantages. The results help shape her lesson plans, she said, as she can quickly group kids by ability. Now and then, the exams reveal hidden strengths or unexpected weaknesses in her students.

Plus, when scores rise, both she and her students feel a genuine pride. "At the end of the year, it's like 'Wow, we really improved.' It's cool because you can see it," Knutson said.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Testing young children is not a new concept. In the 1980s, many states assessed children to determine whether they were ready to enter kindergarten or first grade. Experts in child development denounced the practice as unfair and unreliable and it faded out.

In recent years, however, the federal law known as No Child Left Behind has put pressure on schools to raise scores on the standardized reading and math tests given to students starting around age 8. Schools that post poor scores are labeled failing; principals and teachers can lose their jobs.

With the stakes so high, many administrators have decided to start testing in the earlier grades, to give kids practice and to identify students who need help.

The Obama administration accelerated the trend in 2011 with a $500 million competitive grant to bolster early childhood education. States that pledged to assess all kindergarteners earned extra points on their applications.

After all, taxpayers are investing more than $500 billion a year in public education and "we need to know how children are progressing," said Jacqueline Jones, a deputy assistant secretary in the U.S. Department of Education. "There has to be some accountability," she said.

The administration's grant guidelines encouraged states to develop holistic assessments that measure the 5-year-olds' social, emotional and physical development as well as their cognitive skills. About a dozen states, including Georgia and Maryland, have developed such broad assessments, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Others states, though, focus more narrowly on reading and math skills; some are even beginning to evaluate kindergarten teachers in part on how well their students do on those exams.

The format of kindergarten assessment varies widely.

The Iowa Test of Basic Skills, which is used by schools across the United States, runs more than an hour as a teacher reads dozens of questions aloud and kindergarteners mark their response on a multiple-choice answer sheet. A typical question asks kids to pick the picture that illustrates the word 'sharp' from choices including a piggy bank, a glove and a pair of scissors.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Brigance kindergarten screen is set up as a game that students play one-on-one with a teacher, who may ask them to stand on one foot for 10 seconds, to count to 30, or to copy complex shapes like a diamond. The test takes 10 to 15 minutes and costs about $4 per child.

In addition to these comprehensive tests, curriculum writers are now incorporating multiple shorter exams into kindergarten lesson plans.

Consider the 68-page manual recently published by New York City education officials to guide kindergarten teachers through a math unit aligned to the new Common Core academic standards rolling out nationally. The unit, meant to introduce 5-year-olds to algebraic thinking, includes three short pencil-and-paper exams, culminating with a test that asks students to calculate all the ways they could divide six books between two shelves.

Some parents welcome all the tests as an indication that their kids are truly being challenged. If their children spend too much time finger-painting or playing at the sand table, "parents will say, 'This isn't academic enough,'" said Peggy Campbell-Rush, a longtime kindergarten teacher in New Jersey.

But other parents want kindergarten to be the way they remember it, as a time of relaxed exploration.

Dao Tran, a mother in New York City, said her heart sank when she learned that her neighborhood school emphasized standardized testing even in kindergarten. She scoured the city to find an alternative for her daughter. The public school she chose requires a 45-minute commute each way, but Tran says it's worth it.

The kids there, she said, "seemed happy, and that seemed like the most important thing."

Guild Wars 2, and the Player Dynamic of Online Gaming | Double Crit

So, lately I?ve been playing?Guild Wars 2?(It?s awesome and you should try it out if you haven?t already, by the way). A funny thing happened to me the other day. I can?t recall exactly what I was up against, ?but after a certain point in my early wanderings, my luck ran out ? I couldn?t take them all on, and my last stand was?less than glorious. I was dead.

A random player happened upon the area: I?d never seen him before, and we?d never had any prior affiliation. He proceeded to slaughter the foes which ended my life. Just as I was about to return to a waypoint, he paused, turned, and revived me, then continued on his merry way without so much as a word.

This sort of thing, I?ve come to learn, is normal in the game world- even if it?s ?tacitly unusual in pretty much every other MMO on the face of the planet. Curious, isn?t it?

My first experience with an MMO, like many, was with?World of Warcraft. The players there were a mixed bag. On the one hand, it was possible to occasionally come across a Good Samaritan ? the horde player who helped you out with a quest, the high-level alliance player who let you go on your merry way instead of ganking you. On the other hand?those people were increasingly rare as you moved up the ranks. It was more frequent on a PVP server to find yourself at the mercy of some angry manchild than it was to have someone actually help you on your way, and I actually found myself being cussed out once because someone found out I played both factions.

Even players within the same faction seemed to often prefer to do things on their own, isolated within their little cliques. True, there was a real sense of community within guilds, but at the same time, it was a very individualistic setting, which very much gave the vibe of ?every player for themselves. You?re on your own unless you can find someone to attach yourself to.

He seems rather cross.

It?s even worse in purely competitive games- but we?ve beaten that horse almost to death here, so I?m going to leave that statement standing.

Guild Wars 2?is?different. A reviewer on Forbes?mused that it honestly played like the developers took a list of everything people disliked about MMOs, then made a conscious effort to get rid of the elements on that list. Arenanet has consciously shunted almost every long-standing tradition in MMO history, and the game?s all the better for it.

Players are actually rewarded for helping one another out, and I?m not talking organized, well-oiled guild raids here (another staple of the genre).?The traditional quest system (which lent itself very well to a ?me first? mentality, along with spawn camping), has been thrown violently out the window. Everybody gets credit for every quest, so long as they participate in its completion. As a result, the mentality has completely shifted from competition to participation. Well, except in the PVP arenas?but that?s another story.

What does this mean? What, if anything, does it say about us as gamers? Is it just a case of similar people gravitating towards similar environments, or is there something more going on beneath the surface? Could it be that the developer of a game subtly influences the attitudes and actions of the players with every design choice they make? That perhaps?the League of Legends?community is so hateful due in part to a conscious (or unconscious) decision on Riot?s part?

Could it be that human beings are, in truth, actually hard-wired to cooperate, and it?s only when placed into an environment that awards competition that they begin to squabble?

Maybe it?s just that?Guild Wars 2?s?environment doesn?t lend itself very well to player cruelty, and as a result, toxic players have far greater difficulty spreading their poison to others. ?You know how it goes ? all it takes is one bad apple, and pretty soon you?ve a whole rotten, worm-ridden barrel of filth. Perhaps it?s a combination of the sorts of people the play environment appeals to as well as active prevention on the part of Arenanet itself.

It?s hard to say -?there?s no straight, simple answer to this quandary, and I?ve neither the resources nor the time to execute a scientific study into the matter.?Ultimately, this post is just a bit of food for thought. Next time you?re online, pay attention to how you act ? and how others behave around you. Your attitudes might be influenced in more ways than you know.

5D Modeling and Cost Estimation for Increased Business Efficiency ...

It is imperative to take utmost benefit of the margins in modern construction industry, in order o evolve victorious. The latest generation of technology and design uses 5D modeling and cost estimation as the most optimum solution for businesses.

5D modeling and cost estimation is the latest and the most efficient software that can visually link design, schedule considerations and costs into a single set of tasks for construction. Each of these sets comprise of information of all the equipments used, material and labor involved for a job along with the cost data. When all the information has been given, 5D modeling system will determine the cost of the project, which includes margins, risks and tax. It is possible to make all the necessary adjustments to changes in address and add expenses that have not been included in the specification of the model.

The information is then passed to scheduling application, and the system then determines the duration of each job. All the calculations made by the program is directly linked to the design and costs, and even time. Thus, you can learn the effect of all changes in the model and predict before time. 5D modeling and cost estimation is not only used for knowing the changes affecting various sections of a project, but it also allows you to understand how it will affect scheduling and cost.

5D modeling results also allows you to plan estimates, catch errors, plan projects and determine how much time each of the planned steps of a project requires and develop accurate cost estimation.

5D modeling has been advantageous in the following areas:

???? It prevents design conflicts
???? Minimizes risks in the business
???? Increases flexibility
???? Allows quick information retrieval
???? Reduces turnaround time
???? Utilizes human resources and financial resources to the optimum

Thus, 5D modeling and Cost Estimation has become a basic requirement for the modern construction industry.

Obama offers himself up as "eye candy" on "The View"

NEW YORK (Reuters) - President Barack Obama on Monday sought to woo women voters at a taping of the daytime talk show "The View," by flirting with his wife and bearing gifts for the hosts, but he could not escape tough questions on the economy that have dominated the election.

When host and veteran journalist Barbara Walters kidded Michelle Obama about bringing the president as her "date," Obama quipped, "I've been told I'm just eye candy here."

The appearance, which will air on Tuesday on the ABC television network, marks the first time the Obamas have appeared together on the one-hour show, which features four female hosts, including Hollywood icon Whoopi Goldberg, and is popular with middle-income women voters.

The taping in New York was squeezed in before Obama's obligations at the United Nations General Assembly's annual meeting, where he is delivering a Tuesday morning speech.

During the show, the Obamas joked about their upcoming anniversary and presented the hosts with White House cloth napkins, golf balls, candy and bottles of Obama's home-brewed beer. The couple's 20th anniversary will fall on the day of the first presidential debate, October 3.

"Our first wedding anniversary, I totally forgot," Michelle dead-panned.

The president jokingly responded: "Cold."

Obama and his Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, are both fighting hard for the women's vote.

In 2008, middle-class women were key to Obama's presidential win, and Obama has worked to get them to the polls again. His campaign this summer renewed its focus on social issues such as birth control, women's health and reproductive rights.

Democrats have accused Republicans of declaring a "war on women," while Romney's campaign has slammed Obama's policies for weakening the economy and hurting women in the work force.

During the taping, host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, a vocal Republican supporter, asked if the Obama administration had failed the middle class.

"Everything that we've done has been designed to deal with not only the immediate crisis, but make sure that the middle class, which had been struggling for a decade before that, is feeling more secure," Obama said. "The problems that were created aren't going to be solved overnight."

Hasselbeck also pressed Obama about his previous comments that he cannot end Washington gridlock just from the inside, telling him: "You are Washington, you're about as inside as it gets."

"The idea is that you can't change Washington just from the inside, you've got to mobilize the American people. When the American people are engaged and involved, then change always happens," Obama replied.

"We can't play just an inside game where special interests and lobbyists and big money and folks writin' big checks, they're the only ones who have influence."

Romney's wife Ann will also make a stab at winning over television viewers chatting with comedian Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show" in her first late-night interview on Tuesday, according to the NBC network.

Ann Romney will give her thoughts on family life and the coming election, the network said in a statement.

Live Cricket Score : England vs India - T20 World Cup 2012

Daijiworld Media Network

Colombo, Sep 23 : Hello, and a warm welcome to one and all for the second match of the day. Ind are up against Eng at Colombo. Both teams have already qualified to the next round, but will look to go there on a winning note. Toss in a few moments.

England have won the toss and elected to field

Dhoni: 'We have made four changes. Sehwag, Zaheer, Manoj and Ashwin are not playing today. We will need to execute our plans, every match from now onwards are going to be tough games. The match against Afghanistan was a one off, we are looking forward to this match. We believe that we have a good chance of winning the tournament.'

Broad: 'We will bowl. The pitches seem to have changed a bit here, this one looks a bit dry, we will hope to restrict India. Just one change, Bresnan is in for Samit. India are a top team, we will look to beat them.'

India (Playing XI): Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni(w/c), Rohit Sharma, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Ashok Dinda

England (Playing XI): Craig Kieswetter(w), Alex Hales, Luke Wright, Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler, Jonathan Bairstow, Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad(c), Graeme Swann, Steven Finn, Jade Dernbach

Match preview :

With both sides through to the Super Eights, one might not be totally wrong in expecting a subdued battle. That might not be the case though, as the rivalry between these two sides in the recent past could just subconsciously force England and India to put on a fierce battle.

England are likely to start off as favourites in this contest, owing to the form they displayed in their emphatic win against Afghanistan. India on the other hand looked a little nervous in their opening game and it would be fair to say that they allowed Afghanistan to put on quite a show, before finally sealing those two points.

Team News

India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni's side were all over the place in the field, in their game against the Afghans. The fielding was quite poor and the bowling was pretty lacklustre. Zaheer Khan doesn't appear to be the perfect bowler for the shortest format, however, there isn't much on the bench to fall back on. Death over bowling still is a problem for this side and at some point in time during this tournament, that might just cost India a game.

Luckily for the 'Men in Blue', the batting more often than not seems to come to the rescue. Virat Kohli is one man who has been piling on the runs on a consistent basis and has managed to keep the innings together. Yuvraj Singh has looked good in short bursts, however, with the performance that Rohit Sharma put in during the Warm Up match against Pakistan, it might be a wise idea to send the latter in at number four.

England: Stuart Broad's side looked absolutely on top of their game in the previous encounter and were perfect in all departments. Luke Wright scored a brilliant 99 against the Afghans and the positive for this English side is the fact that he was supported well by the other middle order batsmen.

As a bowling unit England have always looked very strong. With the likes of Broad, Steven Finn, Tim Bresnan in the line up, the pace attack looks like a potent one and one that could certainly shake up a few batsmen. To add to that, England have variety in the form of Graeme Swann, who could be a handful on Sri Lankan wickets. England will probably go in with the same side as the one that played against Afghanistan.

Quotes:

Broad on Yuvraj Singh: 'Well, Yuvraj is a great player and we all welcome him having made such a strong comeback. Obviously, he is one of the most dangerous players but we will meet on the field tomorrow.'

Dhoni on Zaheer Khan: 'It's easier to go after a bowler when is not doing well. For me, Zaheer is the Sachin Tendulkar of the Indian bowling attack. He has been the leader of the bowling unit for a number of years now.'

Iraq shrugs off calls to reconsider death penalty

BAGHDAD (AP) ? Iraq has executed nearly 100 people so far this year, a big increase over previous years that has intensified concern about whether defendants are receiving fair trials in a country where the United States has spent billions of dollars trying to reform the judicial system after decades of dictatorship.

The government says most of the executed had been convicted of terrorism as bombings and shootings persist in Iraq, albeit not at the levels at the height of its conflict years ago. However, international observers worry that the legal process is faulty and that some trials are politically motivated ? including this month's death sentence against Iraq's fugitive Sunni vice president, Tariq al-Hashemi, a longtime foe of Shiite Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki who was convicted in absentia of running death squads.

The executions in 2012 of at least 96 people, all by hanging, amount to more than a quarter of all convicts who have been put to death in the last eight tumultuous years under leaders who struggled to stabilize a country at war after dictator Saddam Hussein was ousted in the U.S.-led war.

Christof Heyns, the U.N. investigator on arbitrary executions, described the government-sanctioned executions as "arbitrary killing" that is "committed behind a smokescreen of flawed legal processes." He warned that the " continued lack of transparency about the implementation of the death penalty in Iraq, and the country's recent record, raise serious concerns about the question of what to expect in the future."

He made the remarks in a statement in August after more than two dozen people were executed in one week.

Since 2005, Iraq's government has executed 372 people, including at least nine women and number of foreigners convicted of terror charges, according to Justice Ministry data. The number of foreigners among those killed this year was not available.

In the last month alone, the government executed 26 people, including a Saudi, a Syrian and three Iraqi women. The executions were announced with no details about the names or trials of those who were killed, drawing widespread international denunciation.

Haider al-Saadi, the spokesman for the Iraqi Justice Ministry, said the death penalty is the best way for the Iraqi government to ease the suffering of the victims' families.

"The criminals in Iraq are not like the ones in Switzerland or other European Union countries or any others," he said. "Iraq today is facing the most dangerous terrorists in the world."

Iraqi courts have issued 867 death sentences since 2004, with most of them still on death row. The most prominent Iraqi to be executed since Saddam's fall was the dictator himself, hanged on Dec. 30, 2006, for his role in the 1982 killings of 148 Shiites following a failed assassination attempt in the early 1980s. A handful of his senior henchmen followed him to the gallows.

After the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, coalition authority officials suspended Iraq's death penalty, which Saddam and his Sunni regime had used to get rid of his opponents in the majority Shiite country. Shiites have led Iraq since, and in 2004 the transitional government reinstated capital punishment. Now, the government is showing increasing enthusiasm for the death penalty as a law-and-order tool.

Iraq was ranked fourth among the top five executioners in the world in 2011, according to London-based Amnesty International. It said most of those who were put to death were convicted of murder, kidnapping, rape and other violent crimes. China is on the top of the list, with thousands of people believed to be executed each year, followed by Iran and Saudi Arabia. The U.S. was ranked fifth.

Amnesty said the people executed in Iraq were sentenced in courts that "failed to meet international fair trial standards." It accused Iraq of issuing convictions in at least some cases that were based on torturing or otherwise coercing witnesses into giving statements against the accused. It has also said that some defendants were sentenced after trials that lasted just a few minutes.

U.S. auditors estimate American taxpayers have spent about $10 billion since 2003 to rebuild and strengthen Iraq's justice system after decades of Saddam's abuse.

Abdul-Sattar Bayrkdar, the spokesman for Iraq's Supreme Judicial Council, defended Iraqi courts as independent and immune to political pressures.

"We have a law and all our judges work according to it. All the trials and proceedings are according to the international law," he said. He added that "some" of the criticism is politically motivated and that "such allegations need proof."

Earlier this month, a Baghdad court found al-Hashemi, the vice president, guilty of masterminding the murders of an Iraqi lawyer and a security official ? killings that the government has described as among at least 150 bombings, assassinations and other attacks by his henchmen. He was sentenced to death by hanging. Al-Hashemi is living in exile in Turkey and has denied charges that he says amount to a political vendetta by his archenemy, the prime minister.

Baghdad-based political analyst Khadhum Muqdadi said Iraq's government has embraced the death penalty in recent years as a way to show the country is aggressive about going after terrorists, even though it fails to prevent the daily violence that has killed hundreds each month.

The government "has failed to dry up the sources of terrorism, to stop the attacks and to achieve security," Muqdadi said. "With these executions, it is trying to ease the pressure it is facing from the public opinion because of its failure to maintain security."
